Sensory Stimulation and Developmental Delays

Every human being is supposed to be born with five senses: sense of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. However, when one is born with a developmental delay, the sensory mechanisms can be affected.

I would like to share a short experience with all my readers. I have a little boy who is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He is significantly developmentally delayed but his therapists have discovered that through sensory touch stimulation, he is calmed and able to relax his muscles. If you know anything about cerebral palsy then you know that the muscles tend to either be very spastic (stiff and rigid) or flaccid (extremely loose). My son suffers from spasticity so for him to receive sensory touch therapy is very beneficial.

If you or someone you know suffers from spastic muscles then they can benefit from sensory touch therapy. Here are a couple techniques that work for my son:
  • Massaging his limbs with whipped lotion or body cream that has a natural aroma such as that derived from essential oils
  • Swirling his hands around in mouse or whipped cream and rubbing it along the sides of his face help to stimulate his sense of touch
Having a disability is difficult in and of itself. Doing things to promote sensory stimulation or relaxing of spastic limbs is very beneficial and affects the physical condition as well as the mood of the person. Many individuals afflicted by cerebral palsy know exactly what's going on. The problem is that many times they just have difficult expressing themselves. In the case of my son, he understands most of what I say to him. He just has difficulty articulating himself.

Alternative Pain Relief for Arthritis

Do You or Does Someone You Know Suffer with Arthritis?

Then you need to be armed with information before determining or continuing your course of pain relief treatment.

Here are some startling facts about Arthritis:
  • As of 2005, the The National Arthritis Data Workgroup reported that approximately 46 million Americans are afflicted with Rheumatoid arthritis
  • The average American is at a 13.5% risk of getting arthritis as reported by the CDC (Center for Disease Control)
  • Joint pain due to arthritis can limit sexual activity. While drugs is an option to alleviate pain, in some cases drugs can reduce sexual desire
  • More than 60% of arthritis patients are women
  • The most common side effects for taking medication to alleviate arthritis pain are: bleeding ulcers, upper gastrointestinal problems, mild weakness in the arm and leg muscles, easy skin bruising, blurred vision, mood swings and even death as a complication

While these facts about arthritis are very alarming, there is better news. If you or someone you knows suffers from arthritis, please know there is safe help available. There are alternative pain relief products on the market that can help to ease and in many case completely eliminate your pain. One particular form of alternative pain relief for arthritis that I'd like to address in this post is Magnetic Therapy. Over 300 peer reviewed studies have been conducted by major universities and hospitals around the world. The results were that magnetic therapy is safe and effective.

How Does Magnetic Therapy Work?

A short explanation would be that applying magnetic therapy to an area where there is pain and swelling causes your capillary walls and surrounding tissues to safely relax, increase blood flow and provide more oxygen to the affected area so that inflammation is reduced and your body can heal itself faster. Your pain and swelling are the result of an electromagnetic field being out of balance.

Note that the correct size, strength and placement of the magnets used in magnetic therapy is critical. You can not use just any ole magnet product unless you want to expect any ole results.

Stop suffering with pain, consider the side effects of traditional medicine and give magnetic therapy a try today.

Your Stress and Your Pain - Closely Related

Did you know that Stress and Pain are so closely related they can be likened unto twin brothers (After all, females can't possibly be associated with pain or stress) Behind every cause of pain is a form of stress. Not convinced? Let me prove it to you.

Stressful Scenario #1

Your boss told you if you were late for work one more time, you'd be docked for pay. Of course your alarm clock didn't go off like you told it too (stupid clock) and you are now running to catch your bus. Running to the catch the bus down the hill you lose footing, fall and fracture your ankle. You are now in excruciating pain and find out after a 3 hour wait in the emergency room, that you have a stress fracture. The stress of putting pressure on your foot made your ankle give way and your bones couldn't handle it. You were initially under pressure (stress) to catch that bus so you wouldn't be late for work. You started off stress (slight pressure to be on time) and you ended up with more stress - pressure added to your flesh causing pain, more stress. OK, so maybe this scenario is a bit glum and extreme (entirely possible though)

How about a more common scenario:

You've been at work all day staring at a computer screen and you are now experiencing neck or back pain. Sitting in one position trying to accomplish many tasks and do a good job is now reflecting signs in your physical body. While a neck ache may not be as severe as a franctured bone, the reason the neck is hurting in the first place is because of stress applied to the muscles (sitting in one place for an extended period of time)

So, now that you see how closely stress and pain are related, what's the first thing you do when you are in pain? You seek some sort of relief right? Do you take a pill to make the pain go away? What if I told you there's a safer way to obtain stress relief? Hmm, well you are going to have to read this Sunday's post to find out the answer to that. I'm not trying to make you sweat here. I just want you to take some time to absorb what I just told you. Take a couple of days to examine your life and answer these 4 questions:
  1. What type of stress am I under?
  2. How do I handle pain?
  3. Do I take medication more than once per week for pain?
  4. Is it really safe for me to take medication for pain?
I'll be back in a couple of days to help you out with some of those answers. Until then....

Honoring on Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day, the day we honor those who have lost their lives serving our country in military service. It's a beautiful day here in New York, a perfect day for a parade.

While some may find this day to be a sad day due to the loss of a loved one who served in Iraq or other war, be encouraged. Your loved one provided a priceless service to this nation. Because of their sacrifice, many people have the freedom to live peaceful lives.

I want to say that it does not matter if the person lost their life after one year or ten years of service, this nation would not be as fruitful as it has been. In spite of the recession, in spite of the horrific things that go on day to day, the U.S. of A. is still the greatest country on the planet. Ok, some may not agree. That's just my humble opinion. Of course, there are other great nations but since I'm in the USA and I benefit from what goes on in this nation more than others, that's my vote! I don't like everything that goes on here but in spite of it, I can walk around a free black woman.

Thank God for our Service Men and Women

Pets feel Stress Too

If you have a cat or a dog, you know how much a part of the family these little characters can be. I used to have a dog but now I have a cat. I've had 3 cats and 2 dogs in my life. One cat is still liveing but the others are deceased. It's very difficult to watch your pet experience any kind of stress or pain.

While animals don't experience the same type of stress that humans do, they certainly do experience stress from various types of pain such as from an illness, accident or operation. Dogs are so in tuned with people that some people actually treat them better than they do their family members. Dogs are loyal for the most part and as owners, we need to take care of them the best that we can.

When it comes to pain, just like us humans, we need to be careful how we treat that pain. Medication is sometimes necesary for certain health conditions but as far as easing that pain, there is safe alternative pain relief.....Magnetic Therapy for Pets.
Magnetic Therapy products for pets provides safe alternative pain relief and effectively eases discomfort. Magnetic therapy pads and wraps can be used on aching body parts of dogs and cats just as they can be used on humans. As your pet gets older, he or she may experience arthritis. Applying a Magnetic Comfort Wrap or Magnetic Pad can be very effective easing pain with no side effects.

Consider a Magnetic Pet Bed constructed of genuine shearling for your dog to provide the little fella with supreme orthopaedic and therapeutic comfort. Based on the size of your dog or your cat, you can get the magnetic pet bed that's just the right size.

Choosing no to Stress

When you don't know what to do, what do you do? When you don't have wisdom what do you do? Do you stress and worry? I had 4 days of challenging circumstances and while they were very stressful and I found myself on the brink of crying because I didn't know what to do, my husband made me realize that I needed to collect myself and realize that stressing out over my circumstances was not helping and certainly didn't change anything.

My car's transmission imploded after 10 years. It was such a personal experience for me because that was my first car and we have been places together. This car knows things that I've done that nobody else does! I cried because I had to say goodbye. At the end of it all, I didn't know what to do but after some of God's favor and direction, I chose not to stress. Walking in a peaceful frame of mind is a choice.

Choose not to stress when you don't know what to do. Look to God for wisdom and favor and He'll lead you and show you what to do when you don't know what to do.

Be Blessed,
Michelle

Breathing Meditation

Every day of our lives we experience some form of stress, and at different levels. You could be driving home from work and get stuck in traffic, thereby changing your plans. That can cause stress.

Sometimes, we have so much to do and so many responsibilities that we forget to slow down and take care of ourselves. We often neglect ourselves for others which can also cause stress.

Breathing meditation has immeasurable benefits, and is widely used to relieve the daily stress we face. Breathing meditation is an effective way to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve the immune system. Breathing meditation has also been used to help people break bad habits such as smoking.

Meditation promotes an inner balance and calms the mind and the body. Once you are relaxed, focus on your breathing and slow it down to the point where you are in a deep meditative state. After a short period of breathing meditation, you feel renewed and the anxiety and stress is either reduced or eliminated. Note that it will take a few sessions to get the technique just right, but it is worth the effort to work towards obtaining significant stress relief on the days when you are being overwhelmed by the many responsibilities of your life.

In order for breathing meditation to be effective, it requires you to engage in this practice on a daily basis. The more you practice breathing meditation, the better you will become at relaxing and calming your mind. You can do this breathing exercise at home, at work, or while traveling. All you need is a quiet place. While traveling, you can put on ear phones to block out noise.

No matter what you are doing during the course of the day, take ten minutes to quiet your mind in order to relieve whatever stress or anxiety you are experiencing. Just as you take care of others’ needs, it is just as important to concentrate on your own well being. Give breathing meditation a try.

Improving Sleep Reduces Stress

Did you know that when you don't get adequate sleep, your body and your emotions are not in the best shape to fend off stress?

Two channels that robs people of restful sleep is insomnia and snoring. Insomnia is a big problem for many people. It can caused by many factors such as physical pain (ex: headaches, arthritis), breathing problems, menopause, substance abuse, worrying....the list goes on. Snoring can be caused by a variety of factors as well but the main reason is poor muscle tone in the tongue and throat which causes airway problems leading to snoring.

Both insomnia and snoring can cause health problems. Sleep deprivation as a result of insomnia decreases your ability to function throughout your day and insomnia can also lead to memory loss and other mental problems. Snoring is so serious that if left unchecked, can actually cause heart problems and strokes.

I discovered two state of the art devices that each treat insomnia and snoring holistically without any side effects, thereby providing you with the help you need to reduce stress caused by these conditions:

Chi Dream Sleep Aid: This device has many benefits and is quite effective for insomnia:

* Portable & great to take on vacation
* Vibrating Micro Massage on the Wrist
* Improved Circulation
This Sleep Aid contains a vibrating motor that provides a comfortable micro massage that helps to improve circulation thereby reducing stress. The vibrating pulse provide acupuncture pressure points to improve circulation and invoke sleep.

Chi Snore Stopper: This revolutionary device reduces the frequency and level of snoring

The snore stopper detects snoring, and then a gentle and safe 4-5 second electrical pulse will be sent automatically to stimulate nerves on the skin WITHOUT waking you up. The brain receives a signal, sensing this nerve stimulation and you subconsciously change your posture of sleep. The result is a reduction in snoring - Results in 1-2 weeks with daily use.

Don't allow Insomnia, Snoring or any other speed problems cause you stress.

Oxidative Stress

Oxidative Stress is not something that many people know about. While oxidation is a part of our body’s normal process - combining elements of oxygen, which cause free radicals to produce. The problem with free radicals is they destroy the healthy cells of the body. This is why it's important to consume antioxidants day.

I wrote an article about oxidative stress that I would recommend people read because it goes into further detail.

I have seriously been eating poorly lately so I know my body is under severe oxidative stress. As a result, I've decided to go on a 5 Day Nutritive Cleanse (products are from Young Living) which will cleanse my body of toxins and remove the cravings for bad food. I started the fast today and I'm detailing my experiences while on the fast on my Fresh Radiant Skin blog.

I suggest that anyone who eats poorly do a cleanse quarterly. Not only do I suggest that, the experts do as well. The 5 Day cleanse will take care of the oxidative stress my body has been under. Part of the cleanse is to consume NingXa Red a super antioxidant drink along with therapeutic grade essential oils and NingXa Wolfberries which are high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Fight oxidative stress today ad restore a healthier you.

For the Love of Peppermint!

I never thought I’d be writing about loving peppermint. The candies always reminded me of old people. When I was younger my grandmothers always had peppermints on hand in church for when they got dry throat and started coughing LOL.

Ok all jokes aside I was introduced to Young Living Therapeutic Grade Peppermint Essential Oil about a week or so ago. Actually I was introduced to an array of oils manufactured by Young Living but I want to share my experience with each oil/product in a different post so as not to confuse anyone. Also, just a note that Therapeutic Grade is very pure and unlike what you find in the pharmacies or health food stores. That stuff is water compared to what I'm about to share.

I received my order of Peppermint Essential Oil on Saturday (April 4, 2009) and I couldn’t wait to use it because I have been experiencing seasonal allergies with tons of coughing, congestion and I even lost my sense of taste/smell for a couple of days. I will keep it short and sweet and straight to the point. Therapeutic Grade Peppermint Essential Oil is some POWERFUL stuff! Just one drop in the palm of the hand and inhaled was enough to pop my lungs wide open. The chest congestion I had been experiencing was significantly reduced with just one inhalation. Then to top that off, the Essential Oils Guide Book says that Peppermint Essential Oil can be used for sinus congestion. So, as per the instructions I applied one drop to my temples, forehead and back of my neck. What an amazing experience. Not only was I able to breathe much clearer, I slept better. It's as if my head was surround by a cool aura. I also used a drop of peppermint on the tip of my tongue. One drop on Saturday, One drop on Sunday and by Sunday night I completely had my sense of taste back!

The difference with the peppermint candies from my grandma’s days and this therapeutic grade essential oil of peppermint is dramatic. It’s not so much a sweet scent as it is a pure crisp freshness. I’ll not leave home without my peppermint!

If you are interested in experiencing the power of “For the Love of Peppermint” (sorry but I’m renaming it to this for personal reasons!), you can pick up Therapeutic Grade Peppermint Essential Oil at Young Living. You’ll need to subscribe to purchase with a distributor #. You can use distributor # 1066504. I hope you enjoy and benefit from it as much as I do.

Chi Health Products

For a few days I side tracked from a previous post which stated I would introduce the category and products available on Reviyve's Natural Stress Relief site. I already touched a bit on Magnet Therapy, Massage and Aromatherapy. While I am going to return to talking about our aromatherapy products, therapeutic essential oils and how they are beneficial, today I want to introduce you to our Chi Health Products.

Chi is short for and stands for Chinese "vital energy" so these products are basically alternative health products that the Chinese promote in their health practices. Just to give you a bit of background about traditional Chinese medicine - the Chinese believe that sicknesses and infirmities are attributed primarily to imbalances in the chi (vital life functions) of the body. Most people have heard of acupuncture which is a technique that helps to alleviate pain. The Chinese believe that the technique is actually restoring an imbalance which leads to the alleviation of pain.

While it is not determined that Chi Health Products are re-balancing specific imbalances, it is however determined that Chi Health Products are quite effective for alleviating pain and various other conditions in a safe manner.

At Reviyve's Natural Stress Relief Alternatives website, you will find a number of Chi Health Products that help to alleviate joint pain, neck pain and even help for sleep disorders.

Chi Knee & Joint Heat Pad:

The Chi Knee & Joint Heating Pad is portable and easy to use. There are no wires. It contains infrared technology and can be microwaved for fast heating. We also carry the Chi Heating Belt to treat larger areas such as the shoulders

Chi Alternative Neck Pain Relief - Neck Traction Device:
This is quite a nifty device and it's so safe because you have control over how much pressure to apply. It comes in a basic design. The image to your left is the Pro II and is excellent for relieving neck pain by gently stretching the muscles and joints.

BENEFITS: Loosens tight muscles, prevents bad posture, helps ease pain from degenerative discs and joints, alleviates tension headaches.

Chi Dream Sleep Aid:
This chi health product is unique in that it is one of few that can help improve your sleep without the dangerous side effects of medication. The Chi Dream Sleep Aid functions according to the priciples behind acupuncture. It contains a vibrating motor that provides a pulse to the acupuncture pressure points on the wrist.

BENEFITS: Improved circulation, Reduced Stress, Better Sleep

Chi Snore Stopper:
This is another portable chi health product like the Chi Dream Sleep Aid. It contains a biosensor that sends a safe electrical pulse to the wrist, thereby stimulating the nerves on the skin WITHOUT waking you up. The brain receives a signal, and you subconsciously change your posture of sleep.

BENEFITS: Improves quality of sleep, Reduces your risks of
health problems such as high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, and fatigue - all potential problems from snoring

Massage for Alternative Care

The art of massage has been around for many years. When you think about getting a massage, the first thought that comes to mind is the relaxation of sore or tight muscles. While that is a great benefit of massage, there are other benefits.

Additional benefits of massage is the permeation of nutritional ingredients into the skin to tighten & firm the skin and to release harmful toxins from the body which can results in few breakouts on the skin.

Some months ago I stumbled upon a very innovative product called the Fyola Facial Massager. The Fyola Facial Massager is an ultrasonic device with 6 modes to promote cleansing, moisturizing, nutrition, lifting, whitening, wrinkle care and massaging of the skin. Fyola gives you a non-surgical face lift. You can now save money on expensive facial massages at spas with this innovative facial massager.

The Fyola Facial Massager boasts the following:

• Reduction of Acne
• Tightening & Firming of the skin
• Lightening of Age Spots
• Cuticle Removing

• Cuticle Removing
• Removal of "eye-sack" and "black eye rim"
• Accelerate blood and lymph circulation
• Disolving of fat (accomplished by the ultrasound heat)

I have found that the Fyola massager retails online from as low as $279 (at www.stressreliefbyrv.com) to as high as $400.

Essential Oils

Last Friday I attended an Aromatherapy party. Now, I always knew that essential oils had the ability to relax you and even had some health benefits but I didn't know just how much essential oils promote health and wellness.

So, at the party we sampled a variety of Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils by Young Living. I can not even describe the potency of these oils. All I can say is I walked in all congested in my nose and chest and after inhaling Peppermint Essential Oil, I was completed cleared. My feet were also very swollen (from my foot surgery in November - takes up to a year to totally heal). I had various therapeutic grade essential oils rubbed into the bottom of my feet and my calves. By the end of the night I felt invigorated and I was walking much better.

Ok, so here's my learnings about the essential oils I sampled:
  • Essential oils can be applied behind the ears and on the bottom of the feet to enhance and promote over all wellness. The various essential oils have their very specific benefits
  • Peppermint Essential Oil & Frankincense Essential Oil are anti-inflammatory agents
  • Lavender Essential Oil is good for treating eczema, reducing cholesterol, skin issues, allergies and more
  • Thieves is a proprietary blend of Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils by Young Living that is composed of the very natural ingredients that French thieves put all over their body to avoid getting the plague when they went to rob the graves of individuals that had it. They have been proven to fight airborne diseases
  • Lavender, Cedarwood, Rosemary can be applied to the scalp to help the hair grow
  • Frankincense Essential Oil is a cancer fighter
Now there is much more that I learned that space won't permit me to type here. I'd be writing a book. Of course, the US FDA requires me to say that none of these statements have been proven by the FDA. While they have not proven it, many many many people have experienced the very benefits that are supposedly unproven. I'll just say this. I was so impressed from the application of the essential oils that I purchased an Every Day Essential Oils Kit which consists of 5ml each of Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon, Thieves, Frankincense, Valor, PanAway, Peace & Calming, and Purification Essential Oils and Essential Oils Blends. I can't wait to begin using them on a regular basis, especially the Lavender (Note: my son has epilepsy and Lavender and Frankincense are noted for treating seizures holistically with much success)

I'm also proud to be a new distributor of Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils. Using Magnets to Ease Pain

In my search of methods for natural pain relief and pain management, I discovered an interesting and very effective natural pain relief method. Of course, I didn't actually discover it as a new way to ease pain. I just discovered it in my life. It's magnet therapy.

As someone who manages an online stress relief website, I wanted to make sure I wasn't just selling products. I wanted to have a personal experience with most, if not all of my stress relief products. I feel that one very big arena for stress is pain. If you are in pain, how can you possibly be at peace?

In November 2008, I had double foot surgery that I thought would be a piece of cake. My doctor said I'd be up and walking in around
2 weeks. Well, while that wasn't entirely a lie, it also wasn't the whole truth. The numbness, tingling and burning sensation I experienced was not expected and it was more than a bit annoying. It kept me from sleeping. I was laid up in the bed most of the time and so I began to make use of that time by browsing the web for new products for natural pain relief that I could offer on my site. That's when I discovered Magnet Therapy.

Many people choose Magnet therapy also known as Magnetic therapy as an alternative form of natural pain relief for conditions such as arthritis and injuries. Magnet Therapy is an effective form of pain management that helps to promote faster healing and has has been well documented over many years by many cultures.

So, when I came across this company that manufactured Magnetic Therapy products, I decided to try the magnets to help ease my own pain. I purchased a small neodymium magnet kit for my personal use. When I received the magnets, I was a little unsure if they would provide pain relief. At the very least I knew that I could send it back and it was safe.

Well, I used those magnets and very much to my surprise within 5 minutes I was experiencing quick relief from the burning sensation and numbness in my right big toe and on the side of my right foot. I was able to sleep soundly with the large magnet affixed to my big toe. You see, you don't have to have but one magnet affixed with some surgical tape to the affected area. It is most effective and I highly recommend this magnetic therapy for anyone who has had surgery.

Of course, there are precautions you need to be aware of. While magnetic therapy is very safe, you can not use this form of natural pain relief if you have any implanted electronic medical devices in your body or you use transdermal drug patches.

You should also know that the
effectiveness of the magnet is determined by the gauss rating, thickness, diameter and spacing of the magnet. Not all magnets are created equally so you should do your homework. Surely, I stand behind our magnets and there is of course a 30 day return policy so if you are not satisfied (which I highly doubt), you can return the magnets less any shipping costs.

As authorized resellers for magnetic therapy products, we offer discounted pricing on our therapeutic medical grade magnets and you get them shipped directly from the manufacturer. It's a win win situation. Lower prices, same quality.

Beginning with the End in Mind

One of the habits in Stephen Covey's book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People" is Beginning with the end in mind. While the book talks about having a clear understanding of your destination so you can get a better understanding of where you are now, thereby keeping you on track with the right steps toward that direction, I'd like to focus on how beginning with the end in mind benefits you as it relates to stress in your life.

Whenever you begin a task, no matter how small or how great, you should do two things:
  1. Have a mapped out plan that includes detailed steps to get you to your accomplished destination or completed task
  2. Work proactively towards succeeding at the task at hand
Focusing on your desired results prevents you from building up stress. It's sort of like Walking by Faith. Regardless of the obstacles that may cross your path, you are focusing on your desired result. Nothing else matters. If along the way, the steps you mapped out to the destination or desired result need a little "tweaking", stay flexible and make the adjustments but keep the end in mind, focusing on the victory. Focusing on victory vs. failure is what keeps you progressing and helps fight off the stress of worry and feelings of inadequacy.

Try it and you will notice that not only will your attitude be positive, you will also notice that you wont' be as easily discouraged.

Cleaning House

Cleaning house can be very therapeutic when you are experiencing stress. It's a great stress management technique that can help take your mind off your problems. Not only is it a great stress management technique, your home will love you afterwards! The smell of freshness through out the house alone is a great stress reliever.

My children sometimes do things that can work my nerves if I let them. I ask them to do things and its as if I'm talking to myself. My oldest leaves his clothing and shoes all over the house and then comes and goes like my house is a hotel. Well, fortunately he was gone for the day and I was tired of looking at his mess. It was beginning to truly stress me out. So, not only did I clean up the entire house, I sanitized my bathroom and kitchen based on some research I've done about keeping your home clean of germs. Of course, nobody can rid their home of germs 100% but you can at least make it so that no sickness causing germs are lurking around. I'm in a process of writing a very comprehensive e-book about germs which will be available to anyone who makes a purchase on my Stress Relief website. I should have it completed by April 1st.

So, if you are experiencing a little stress and need an outlet, go turn on some music and get to cleaning!

Chips Under Pressure

When just reading the title, "Chips Under Pressure", one could assume many things. One could think that I'm about to talk about someone who falls apart when facing stressful situations.

On the contrary, I'm talking about potatoe chips! More specifically, eating as a way to deal with life's circumstances. Commonly termed "emotional eating", turning toward food as a way to relieve stress is a very common, yet costly practice. I personally deal with food issues, specifically snacks. The only difference is I don't turn to food to relieve stress. I tend to snack as a form of recreation. Basically, when I'm bored I go overboard with snacking. However, neither boredom nor stress are acceptable reasons to develop a relationship with food. Food is supposed to fulfill basic physical needs to sustain life. Food should not be used to fulfill a need that should be filled by other means. While I've not perfected this area in my life, I want to write about it as a way to identify with others.

Having a food addiction or self control problem is not an easy thing to defeat. It is helpful to have a support system to assist you with food issues... just like AA. Someone mentioned to me once that Over Eaters Anonymous was a helpful group. I'm thinking of checking that out myself. If I decide this is the right support group for me, I'll share my findings.

If you have a success story you would like to share where eating problems are concerned, please share it. Your story can be an encouragement to others and I'd like to dedicate this post to doing just that. I want this post to be a sort of forum, an outlet for others to talk about their issues, concerns and problems with using food as a crutch. All are welcome.

Stress Relief Without God?

We live in a changing world. The only thing that remains the same is the fact that life will always include problems and challenges that us finite humans don't always have the solutions to. With challenges come stress if you don't have the solution or know someone you can turn to who does.

It is natural for human beings to try and find the answers to all of the dilemmas of life. However, our lack of omniscience causes frustration and feelings of stress when we are unable to find the answers we so desperately seek after.

What is the real solution to stress? Where can one obtain effective stress relief every single time? Is it in the self help books? Can stress relief be truly obtained by the various stress management techniques available today? Yes and no. Sure, we can employ various stress management strategies to reduce our stress but the only true source of stress relief is God. We may be able to handle some of our circumstances but why handle them at all when Jesus said, "Cast all of your care and anxieties on Him for He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7. God is omniscient and omnipresent. Regardless of your problem, He has a solution. He has the solution to lack, sickness, loneliness, depression, confusion... whatever the challenge or problem, God has the solution.

Even if you manage to come up with a good idea to solve a problem you are facing, your good idea could be be as effective as a "God idea." When we choose to look to God to relieve our stress, the stress management tips and techniques we follow and do in the natural realm are much more effective with a 0% failure rate. God will never fail you when you have faith in Him and in His Word, the Bible.

Relax and Be You

Are you the type of person who tends to do things to please other people? Or the type of person who is not happy unless others like you? Well, I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is if you continue this way, you will be causing yourself and under amount of stress that can certainly be avoided. The good news is if you be yourself the people who are meant to be in your life for the long haul will be there and you won’t have to constantly compromise for them to like you.

While it is human nature to desire the companionship of others, you do not have to compromise who you are in order to accomplish this. God created us as individuals for a purpose. If we were all the same, what good would that do? How much fun would that be? Imagine if everyone looked just alike, believed all the same things, liked all of the same things and acted just alike. What a bland and unbalanced world we’d live in – no flavor at all. Different races, cultures, talents, skills and opinions are what give us diversity. Everyone may not like you but who cares?

Studies show that no matter what you do 10% of all people you come in contact with won’t like you anyway. That’s their problem. If that’s the statistic then why bother trying to please everyone and put yourself in bondage to other people? Do you like yourself? If you don’t, I respectfully recommend you learn how. Reflect on all of the things you are good at. Take a month or so to write down every compliment you may receive from someone else. It doesn’t have to be a big compliment. It can be as small as, “Hey, I like your shirt.” A comment reflects that you have good taste in clothing! You will more than likely find that you like “you” after all. At the very least, you may discover some pretty neat things about yourself.

Don’t stress yourself worrying about what others think about you. Just be yourself. Of course, in being yourself you don’t want to cultivate a spirit of selfishness  What you are working towards is loving yourself enough to place boundaries in your life so that others don’t take advantage of you. If you are a giving person, continue to be that way, just don’t give so much of yourself that there’s nothing left for you.

The "I'll Do It All" mentality Leads to Stress

Have you ever heard of the saying, "If you want something done right, do it yourself?" Well, while there may be some truth to that at times, it's really based in arrogance and can lead to a life filled with stress and frustration. A humble person recognizes that their way of doing things may just be different and not necessarily better.

Stress is imminent any time a person takes on the responsibility of doing everything because they actually fear it wont' be done, the "right way." There are things in life that you absolutely have to do but then there are things that are better left for someone else to do. Find the balance and you'll be proactively fighting the stress in your life.

Simplifying Your Life

I recently bought a book by Joyce Meyers, "100 Ways to Simplify Your Life." While I'm not yet through all one ways, I certainly say that I'm picking up quite a few nuggets along the way.

The one I am focusing on today is that of getting enough rest. For starters, you are no good to yourself or anyone else if you are operating on "E" and are burned out. One way to have a simple life is to make sure you get enough rest. I've always had a hard time with this one because I always feel I have to work and work until things are completed and then on top of that I suffer with a "I must get it perfect" spirit.

So, I've committed to simplify my life by getting enough rest going forward. Just as the Heavenly Father, God took one day to rest, it's wise that as human beings we do the same.

Alternative Pain Relief

Pain in any form can be stressful and at times cause you to curl up in a ball so to speak so that you can't even function. Arthritis, post-surgery and injuries all cause pain at some point or another. Most of the time, we rely on pharmaceutical drugs to ease that pain. Many times pain can be relieved without the use of pharmaceutical drugs.

While Magnetic Therapy is not a new form of alternative pain relief, it's certainly become increasingly more popular. People are tired of experiencing the side of effects from pharmaceutical drugs and are turning to more natural forms of pain relief.

Magnetic Therapy, also termed Magnet Therapy is a safe and natural method of alternative pain relief that is facilitated by applying magnetic fields to the body for therapeutic purposes.

I had foot surgery a few months ago and began using magnetic therapy. I was very pleased with the results. The inflammation and burning sensation I was having was eased within minutes of applying magnets. I definitely recommend this form of alternative pain relief.

No Rest for the Weary

The word "recession" is nothing new these days. Companies are laying off thousands due to the economic crisis. At the company I work at, upper management received a cut of their salaries by 10%. Truly the belt is being tightened all around. Some thought that it was a national crisis but it's quickly become an world crisis. Stress is at an all time high and people are scurrying to find quick stress relief.

I submit to you that while all of this is going on, where is your hope? Do you place your hope in the past? the foretold future? Is your hope in your bank account? Is your hope in our new president? Where do you go to for stress relief? All of these sources are subject to error. Is God your hope? Is He your source of stress relief? He's the only source of true hope and He never fails. If you put your trust in Him today, you will not only obtain relief from stress but you can feel safe and secure that while there is no rest for the weary, "He gives His beloved sleep."

Be Encouraged

Anticipation gets the better

My my, what anticipation can do to you. I had a Spa Party this weekend and was anticipating that people may not show. I allowed worry and fear to get the best of me. Granted, not nearly as many people showed up that I would have liked but all in all it turned out to be very profitable and fun.

So, this is just a short lesson for all you worriers out there. Don't let anticipating things get you to a place of worrying. Worrying causes stress and it's not worth it, especially when chances are that things will turn out just fine.

I will be posting pics of the spa party shortly on my other blog http://deadseastorebyrv.blogspot.com

"What are you Made of?"

Everyone encounters adversity at some time or another. We live in a fallen world, fallen from God's original purpose and plan for mankind. When Adam & Eve sinned, sin entered the world and creation has been experiencing adversity ever since. Of course, God had a plan for redemption but that doesn't mean that we will not encounter adversity in our lifetime.

How do you face adversity? Rather, do you face adversity? Standing in the face of adversity, Paul from the Bible stated, "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

How you respond to life's trials and tribulations will tell you what you are made of. If you run and cower and stress out in the face of adversity, then you need to reevaluate who you are and what you are made of. Children of God (born again ones by the Spirit of Christ), do not ever have to run from adversity. We have a Blood bought covenant promise from Father God to have help available in a time of trouble. Father has placed within His children a resiliency and the ability to live victoriously over EVERY situation and circumstance. What are you made of?

This too shall pass...

Choosing to stress over things that are outside of your span of control is pretty useless.

Case study: Husband and wife are used to always buying whatever they want and living comfortably. Husband loses job. Wife is the sole provider until husband finds new employment.

Decisions will affect your actions and actions will affect your habits and habits will affect your character.

The wife can decide to stress over her husband’s loss of “bread and butter” or she can choose (another decision) to be thankful that at least she is employed and the mortgage will still be paid. If she chooses the former and decides to stress, then the next step will be a series of actions that will cause fights and arguments. Those fights and arguments can get really dirty. As a result, husband or wife may experience feelings of unappreciation and begin to retaliate against those actions with other actions such as adultery. Adultery gives you a new character. The adulterer is now a liar and a cheat. All because a decision to be thankful verses being stressed was made.

Of course, this case is text book and not all things work out this way but …it could. Consider the next time you have an opportunity to stress out. Remember, the old cliché. “This too shall pass.”

A Sad and Stressful Day

Death is something that we will all face some day. However, there's nothing as sad and stressful as losing a loved one to death.

So, I'm going to my best friend's grandmother's funeral. She was 88. I guess we should be thankful that she did get to live a long life. However, she died a painful and emotional death to cancer. I grew up with this woman. She loved my friend so. Sometimes I think she loved her more than her own daughters. I can only imagine the pain that my friend is going through. From this point I'll call her Taylor.

Taylor has been under a great deal of stress since she found out that grandma was sick. Those days of wondering if and when she'd never see grandma again were so very stressful. Then in the last moments when grandma was in the hospital, Taylor stayed with her hours each day and in the end when she finally went home to take a rest, grandma died. After all of that time, grandma died when she stepped away. Can you imagine the stress and guilt Taylor is feeling?

I share this story because many people experience losing a loved one while they are not physically together. I want to encourage you that, it's not your fault. No one knows the day or the hour of a person's final hours on this earth. Give yourself a break. I'm pretty sure that your loved one does not blame you for not being there.

I don't know whose heart this entry has touched. I just hope I encouraged someone and I pray that you do not stress or feel guilty over losing someone you loved.

Off to the funeral I go

Magnetic Therapy to Relieve Pain

So, I was somewhat of a skeptic when I thought about using Magnets to relieve pain. I was wondering how on earth is this supposed to work. However, since there were no side effects I figured I'd try it.

I had foot surgery in November, 2008. The pain was not so bad at first. After all I was on Vicaden. Well, Vicaden is a controlled substance so I couldn't keep taking that for long. Soon after I stopped, I began to have this tingling numbing sensation in my right toe. It would burn like heck. I was unable to sleep at night. That's when I came across a website that sold Magnetic Therapy Products.

I spoke with someone at the company who recommended I purchase a Large magnet kit. I do so and when the magnets arrived I decided to put one on at bed time. I gotta tell you, at first I thought the pain was getting worse. For the first 5 minutes I was like dag this is burning. But then, after that first few minutes I began to notice that the numbness and burning sensation began to significantly decrease. I had no idea what was going on but I actually slept through the night and woke up with no pain.

Now, I'm sold. Magnetic Therapy is where it's at. I am not the biggest fan of pharmaceutical drugs so you can imagine how happy I was to find that Magnetic Therapy Products actually work!

So, if you are experiencing any pain or inflammation as a result of surgery, arthritis, injuries or whatever, I highly recommend using Magnetic Therapy Products!

Resilience Under Pressure

Hello People-

As I think about yesterday's jet crash landing into the Hudson River, I wonder do people really know how blessed they are? There's no stress like being submerged under water in an airplane. So, do you know some people actually got on a plane the next day? That's what I call resilience.

Folks, let's be real. Most of us will never be in a plane crash. Most people deal with every day stress such as not being able to pay the bills, or relationship tensions. Whatever it is, do you know that your stress is nothing compared to what those people went through yesterday.

We are living in a time where stress is at an all time high and people need to become more resilient under pressure. Things will only get worse......or will it? Maybe it's your outlook on life that determines your level of stress. Something to think about. Peace

New Beginnings

So, here we are in 2009. I can not believe we are almost to 2010.

With the close of another year is a time for new beginnings. Forgeting things that are behind and pressing forward to a brighter future. Well, of course your future won't be too bright if you live in the past. I think that people stress themselves out by holding on to old "junk"

Bishop TD Jakes once said, "Most people have an affair with their junk. People who are always saving things for a rainy day are having an affair with shoulda, could, woulda." Man, that's powerful. Think of all the stress you can avoid by just getting rid of your shoulda, coulda, woulda's?

I hope that in 2009, people will look at the fact that they are still alive (many didn't make it), still healthy (many got a bad diagnosis), and still employed (many, MANY were laid off) and take a moment and think of a cause to pause.

That's it. I'm out. Hit me up if you want to be a positive individual. If you want to be a stresser, keep stressing! Sometimes, it's your choice. Peace
